Gelatin is a multifunctional ingredient, natural, fully digestible and with ample functionality. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Commission for Health and Consumer Protection confirm that gelatin is a safe food. In addition, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) classifies gelatin as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe).
It is a pure product with a high protein value (greater than 85% of its composition), presenting all the essential amino acids required by the human body with the exception of tryptophan.
Gelatin is neither classified an additive nor a preservative, but as a food, which means that it is an ingredient that does not have an e-number. It also does not contain fats or carbohydrates..

Gelnex gelatin is produced from raw materials extracted exclusively from animals that are acquired from authorized establishments inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Adhering to current laws and regulations, Gelnex has chosen to establish basic requirements with its suppliers, that focus mainly on traceability and reliability. The quality parameters are carefully monitored and verified during each step of the process to ensure the safety, consistency and performance of Gelnex gelatin.

Some of the standards we can highlight are as follows:

Establishment of procedures ensuring accreditation of raw material suppliers, as well as the process of acquiring it;

Establishment of a standard raw material technical specification with suppliers;

Establishment of procedures for obtaining, segregating and storing of raw material;

Establishment of procedures for transporting raw material to the gelatin industry;

Establishment of procedures with the inspection of the receipt, packaging, and transportation of the raw material.

All of our manufacturing locations are BRC International Certified, which is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). This certification confirms that the food production processes are performed as required by BRC, and ensures that the Gelnex manufactured products can be consumed with absolute safety. In addition to the BRC certification, Gelnex is also EDQM certified (Certificate of Suitability for bovine gelatin released by the European Directorate for the Quality and medicine & Healthcare). Kosher and Halal certified (Bovine) gelatin is also available. As part of our service to our clients, other International standards like The US Pharmacopeia, Food Chemicals Codex, European Pharmacopeia, French AFNOR standard, and many others have been easily obtained by Gelnex quality system.
